Finding a baby scale that’s accurate enough to make a difference is like finding a needle in a haystack.
I took the time to go through that haystack and found some amazing ‘needles’ …some of them as accurate as 0.25 lbs.
Let’s see what makes them tick.

Hatch Baby Grow Smart Baby Scale
This digital scale by Hatch Baby is the Cadillac of baby scales.
Digital scale features at a glance:
- Precise 0.25 oz increments for accurate readings
- Doubles as baby scale and a changing pad – you’ll spend less and save space
- Wireless smart scale – records the baby’s weight
- You can pair and control it through the app on your phone
- Wipeable foam upper – your baby stays warm and comfy
Benefits of the Hatch Baby Grow
In this section, we look at the main benefits of owning a baby scale like this.
I’ll primarily focus on aspects that are unique (or better) compared to other scales.
Impressively accurate measurement
This scale registers weight change down to a quarter of an ounce, making it accurate enough for weighted feeds (measure the exact amount your baby gets in one feed). It’s the same kind of weigh-in that a lactation consultant would take.
To get meaningful data, make sure you’re consistent in the way/when you weigh the baby. It’s common sense that an accurate baby scale like this will register a full diaper, so bear that in mind.
Rule of thumb – weigh your baby at the same times and in the same ‘apparel.’
Digital baby scale seamlessly pairs with your phone
No diaries and no jotting down the baby’s weight.
The Hatch Baby App (free) records all the relevant data and keeps it in your phone. You can then share that data with your doctor, partner or family.
Track the baby’s weight with visual feedback
The app can also use historic data and give you a graph of the baby’s growth.
That means you can be sure they’re eating enough at any time and spot any changes in the child’s growth much earlier than you would with other baby scales.
Finally, the app is cleanly designed and easy to use, even if you’re not tech-savvy.
The strap is a safety plus
If you have a fussy one on your hands, weighing them can be a pain. This scale comes with a strap so that you can strap them down for an accurate hand-off weighing.
It might not sound like a big deal but, at this accuracy, you need the baby to be still.
Easy to clean/wipe
The texture is plastic with a soft finish, but still resistant to ‘accidents.’ You just wipe it, and it’s as good as new.
What I love about the baby scale
I like the idea of getting a top-shelf product and saving money in the process.
If you got a changing pad of similar quality (silicone-like, wipeable texture) like the Keekaroo Peanut changer, for example, you’d have to spend almost as much as you would on the Hatch Grow.
Then you’d have to get a baby scale separately, and there’s little chance of finding one that’s as accurate as Hatch.
Finally, I’m not a fan of clutter and if I can get a product that does more than one thing, count me in.
The important part here is that it actually works. Which the Hatch Grow does…and then some.
Bottom line – this toddler scale costs more than any of the scales we looked at for this guide. At that price point, a parent expects it to do things that other scales can’t. And Hatch meets those expectations.

Runner-up – Health o Meter Grow with Me
The runner-up in accuracy among baby scales is the Health o Meter Grow with Me. It’s the cheaper alternative to the Hatch Grow if extreme accuracy is not paramount for you.
Health o Meter is accurate down to 0.5 ounces. That’s twice the increment of the Hatch and, for most parents who just want to track the baby’s growth, that’s going to be plenty accurate.
Unlike the Hatch, Health o Meter can ‘convert’ to a toddler scale that goes up to 60 pounds while keeping the same accuracy.
Benefits of the Health o Meter baby, toddler, and infant scale
It’s a multi-purpose scale
You can use the digital scale from zero to 60 lb of weight, which means you get a better bang for your buck compared to regular scales.
Transforming the baby scale into a toddler scale is a breeze – you just remove the tray and use the bear-themed surface underneath.
Convenient for fussy babies
If you have a finicky baby on your hands, weighing them becomes challenging.
With the Health o Meter, you just press the hold button, and you get a reading of the average weight, which is more accurate than a momentary reading.
Features of the toddler scale:
- Zero out function – gives you the option to adjust the weight for diapers and other clothing
- Infant tray with a security lock – stabilizes the tray and makes the weighing easier
- Large display – the digital LCD screen is easy to read
- Hold features – when you press the hold button, the scale returns an average weight. That makes it easier to weigh fussy babies.
- Comes with growth charts – you can track your baby’s weight and compare it against the national averages
- Can be used with or without the tray – makes it more versatile because you can weigh your child upright as they grow
What I like is the Health o Meter baby scale
Multi-purpose baby scales aren’t a novelty, so that part isn’t unique.
What stands out is the accuracy in all modes of use – baby to toddler; this scale will give you the weight down to 0.5 lbs.
There are other scales that combine these two fortes – prolonged use and accuracy, but they cost significantly more, and the warranty is rarely as long (5 years).
Value-wise, the Health o Meter gets two thumbs up from me.
Smart Weigh Comfort Baby Scale
I’m including one ‘basic’ scale for a good reason – because sometimes you just don’t need the bells and whistles; you need simplicity.
Benefits of the Smart Weigh Comfort scale
While it might not be the most accurate scale here, the Smart Weigh Comfort is an elegant scale that just does the job.
Simple controls
Using intricate baby scales has a learning curve. If you don’t need all the added functions but want something that works as your kitchen scale but is still comfortable for your child, this is the scale for you.
The controls are simple and familiar, so you can hit the ground running.
Comfortable platform
You rarely see this kind of attention to detail and thought-out design in this price range.
The curvature of the platform, paired with the fine finish, makes for a pleasant weighing experience. The ergonomics are a massive plus, especially if your baby is not a fan of scales.
Features of the Smart Weigh Comfort scale:
- Smooth cradling platform – curved to keep your baby comfortable for the weighing
- Slim, modern design – it’s convenient to store, and the minimal lines are pleasing to the eye
- Large LCD screen and simple controls – operating the scale and getting a reading is as easy as measuring a cup of flour on your kitchen scale
- Auto shut-off – you can use it and just walk away; no need to turn anything off
- Tare function – a convenient way to weigh the baby with a blanket and still get an accurate reading
- Multiple units – you can easily switch between pounds, kilograms, stone
What I love about it
This is a fuss-free scale that just gets on with it.
I love the unique, slim design and the familiar controls (pretty much the same as your kitchen scale).
FAQs about scale accuracy and baby weighing
Should you weigh your baby in the first place?
Weighing your baby allows you to track its growth and pinpoint any potential development issues early on. If the baby scale is accurate enough, you can even track how much they eat. Find out more about how to weigh your baby at home here.
How accurate are baby scales?
Baby scales are typically accurate down to 0.5 ounces, with the most accurate of them going as low as 0.25 ounces.
That means that specialized baby scales are more accurate than a traditional scale.
Is a tub scale more accurate?
There’s no difference in accuracy between a tub scale and other baby scales. The difference is the position of the baby.
Final thoughts on choosing an accurate baby scale
By this point, you should have a clear idea about which of the scales is accurate enough for you.
We have an outlier in the Hatch Baby (accurate to 0.25 lbs) and two scales that aren’t as accurate but would be gentler to your budget.
I keep this guide on accurate baby scales updated, so it might be wise to bookmark it for reference.
